Nora and Peter met us at Little Elbow Falls west of Bragg Creek and we set up camp, visited and did some sightseeing. It is so good to reconnect with old friends. Nora had a cast on her foot, so we didn't do anything too adventurous. The weather was splendid. We did manage to visit the mall and do some shopping, took a backroad trip into Kananaskis, and had dinner in Black Diamond. We spent a wonderful day soaking up the sun by a lake and tried out the Kayak. After the Calgary Stampede, Daryl and Kevin joined us at Beaver Flats. Lyle and his brothers took a nostalgic trip back to the old ranger station. Thanks to both brothers for coming such a long way to connect with us!
What a special day we had at the Calgary Stampede! We met Kathy Sutherland, and spent the day wandering the midway. Then she took us to the horse barns, and we had dinner with them and their sponsors. It was a wonderful glimpse into the world of chuckwagon racing. We were treated to infield seats, and I loved watching the races. Kirk had won the night before but this night he didn't do well and knocked over a barrel. The next night there was a collision in the backfield and a number of horses had to be put down. That of course caused controversy about the event, but I find it exciting.
After the races we returned to our grandstand seats and enjoyed the Transalta show and fireworks. The headliner was Paul Brandt, and once again it was a phenomenal production. It was also the 100th anniversary event, so they did it up in style!
